Someone has died, what should I do?

In the event of a death, it can be difficult to know what to do. The next steps depend on where and how the death occurred. Once initial medical requirements are met, our Funeral Directors can guide you through all arrangements and take care of the rest.

• If the death occurs in an Aged Care Facility, staff will guide you through the immediate steps. The Nurse on duty will complete all necessary paperwork and contact us on 1300 311 747 (24/7).
• If the death occurs in a Public Hospital. They will have facilities there to look after your loved one until the Doctor completes necessary paperwork. Phone us on 1300 311 747 (24/7) to guide you through the arrangements.
• If the death occurs in a Private Hospital, staff will guide you through the immediate steps. The Nurse on duty will complete all necessary paperwork and contact us on 1300 311 747 (24/7).
• If the death was Expected or Under Medical Care, a nurse or ambulance personnel will complete a life extinct certificate and you will need to phone us on 1300 311 747 (24/7). One of our Funeral Directors will follow up with the treating doctor for the Medical Cause of Death Certificate (Form 9).
• If the death occurs Unexpectedly at Home, contact the police.
  The death will usually be referred to the Coroner but not always. Phone us on 1300 311 747 (24/7). Funeral Directors are available 24 hours to provide guidance and take care of the arrangements.
